Along the walkway out to the lighthouse, can be seen terraces built way back in time, mostly by the Moors and Arabs, who thru their ingenuity and hard labour, made barren slopes into cultivated land. Incredible is it to see that virtually the whole north-west slope of Serra Helada at one time was cultivated land. Stones laid by hand having survived a thousand years or more, do witness of great knowhow indeed.
